Mbaise is located in Imo State in the south eastern part of Nigeria. In the Igbo (also spelt "Ibo" and pronounced E'bo) language, the Mbaise literally means "five towns". The five towns (clans) that make up Mbaise are Agbaja, Ahiara, Ekwerazu, Ezinihitte and Oke-Uvuru. The towns are grouped into three local government areas (LGAs), namely: Aboh, Ahiazu and Ezinihitte Mbaise LGAs. age in Igboland. The great "Abigbo" dance troupe, "Oji" Mbaise, which celebrates the significance of the kola nut, "Iri-ji" Mbaise, an annual celebration of the yam harvest - all are festivities for which Mbaise is well-known in Nigeria and beyond.
Mbaise people are also known for starting self-help projects. As a result, most of the infrastructures in Mbaise are products of private initiatives and communal efforts. For instance, Mbaise USA Inc has initiated healthcare programs in Mbaise and is mobilizing resources for other projects.
